Protecting Lands & Waters
Your support is saving at-risk lands and waters from destructive development, industry and other threats.
Here’s one great example how…
At 253,000 acres, the Cumberland Forest Project is one of The Nature Conservancy’s largest-ever conservation efforts in the eastern United States—larger than Shenandoah and Acadia National Parks combined.
We’re working to safeguard this forest on two fronts: by storing millions of tons of carbon dioxide and by connecting a migratory corridor that scientists believe could be one of North America’s most important escape routes as plant and animal species shift their ranges to cooler climates.

Saving Species
Your support is reconnecting and preserving disappearing habitat that wildlife and other species rely on.
Here’s one great example how…
As the ancient rainforests of Borneo—home to three-quarters of the world’s orangutans—are cut down acre by acre, these critically endangered primates paying the price. Half their population has been lost in the past 60 years, and they’re at increasing risk of extinction.
The Nature Conservancy is working with partners in Borneo to restore and sustainably manage 2.5 million acres of forest, including more than 1 million acres of vital orangutan habitat. We’re partnering with Indigenous and local communities to help them secure legal rights to their forests and create land management plans that reduce deforestation.

Tackling Climate Change
Your support is super-charging nature’s ability to reduce carbon emissions and make communities more resilient to the impacts of climate change.
Here’s one great example how…
How do we ramp up the transition to renewable energy without harming nature? With innovative approaches like transforming old mining sites and other disturbed lands into tomorrow’s renewables.
In Kentucky, we’re partnering with Rivian automaker and BrightNight renewable power producer to build the state’s largest renewable power project. When complete, it will be one of the largest renewable sites in the country, built on former mine lands and will produce enough electricity to power the equivalent of more than 500,000 homes each year.
